Micromem Applied Sensor Technologies (MAST) developed a solution for high speed air bearing spindles used in the Printed Circuit Board industry. The sensor circuit is based on a small, highly sensitive Hall Effect device developed by Micromem Technologies, Inc. The small size of the sensor allows placement closer to the spindle shaft, resulting in a significantly more accurate measurement of the shaft position. The Hall Effect Sensor’s high sensitivity – due to the GaAs substrate – delivers sensitivity greater than 0.1 nT/Root-Hz. The analog outputs provide maximum control and calibration flexibility of the 3 dimensional sensor field and can be manufactured at very low cost.
This technology also has application in the precision milling and cutting industries – anywhere accurate motor control is required.
